Welsh

Cymraeg Campus is a Language Charter designed to encourage and inspire our children and young people to integrate the Welsh language into all aspects of their lives. School can work towards three targets – Bronze, Silver, and Gold.

Crossgates School has achieved the Bronze award from Cymraeg Campus and is currently working towards the Silver award. All the pupils and staff work hard to promote the Welsh language.

Y Criw Cymraeg

Members of the ‘Criw Cymraeg’ are selected by their peers and all pupils are able to put themselves forward to be a member. It is then down to the class votes!
Mrs. Jenkins oversees this initiative, but all staff members play important roles in working towards the targets for each award.

The Criw Cymraeg lead an assembly which is held every week. During these assemblies the chosen Welsh phrase is introduced, and a Welsh prayer is recited. We also sing welsh songs including our own song which we wrote with the help of the Welsh whisperer!

The Criw Cymraeg rewards individual pupils with “tocynnau iaith” (language tickets) when they are heard speaking Welsh in school. Stickers are given to these pupils then in the assembly.

Throughout the year, various events are planned to support our efforts in achieving these awards. The Criw Cymraeg also takes a leading role in organising and leading special events such as Shwmae Su’ mae? Day, St. Dwynwen’s Day, St. David’s Day, The School Eisteddfod and Welsh music day. They also helped organise a welsh cafe where staff, parents and pupils chatted and ordered tea and cake.
