RSE

What is RSE?

Young people should have the right to access information that keeps them safe from harm. This includes learning about healthy relationships, keeping safe, online and offline, and being confident to raise issues with responsible adults.

RSE is designed to safeguard all our children and young people, supporting them to develop knowledge, skills and behaviours that will assist in protecting them throughout their lives.

This is critical to building a society which treats others with understanding and empathy, whatever their ethnicity, social economic background, disability, sex, gender or sexuality.

Calon Cymru Cluster Diversity Statement

Why we teach about diversity of families in RSE

It’s important to ensure inclusivity, supporting the community to live a fulfilled and happy life free from discrimination

By incorporating diversity into RSE, our school community learns to respect and appreciate differences in gender, sexuality, and cultural backgrounds. This helps create a more inclusive and respectful school environment and wider community.

Understanding diversity equips our school community with the knowledge and skills to navigate and thrive in a diverse society. It fosters empathy and reduces prejudices, preparing them for real-world interactions.

An inclusive RSE curriculum can positively impact learners’ mental health by promoting acceptance and reducing feelings of isolation among those who might feel different. It helps  everyone feel seen and valued.

Discussing diverse perspectives and experiences in RSE encourages learners to think critically about societal norms and their own beliefs. This can lead to more informed and open-minded individuals.

Teaching diversity aligns with legal requirements and ethical standards in education, ensuring that schools provide a comprehensive and fair education to all learners.
